Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at camilla@greatoceanroadpsychology.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Reaching out for support and attending your first session can be daunting, and it is normal to feel nervous or anxious. The focus of the first session is to get to know you and the challenges that have brought you to seek support. It will help Camilla understand your current difficulties by building an understanding of your life story including your family and important relationships, life experiences, previous mental health difficulties etc. Questionnaires may also be provided for you to complete as part of gaining a thorough understanding your needs and goals. It may be helpful for you to bring make notes and bring these to the first session to improve your memory about important symptoms etc.

It is important to know that you have control of the pace with which you share information. If you are not comfortable answering particular questions that is ok! Building a safe and trusting relationship is a vital part of effective treatment and achieving positive outcomes.

  • A court subpoena or other disclosure is required or authorised by law
  • Failure to disclose the information would place you or another person at serious or imminent risk of harm
  • Mandatory reporting is required regarding child safety. In Victoria all psychologists are mandated to report physical and sexual abuse of children aged under 17 years
  • You have provided approval or consent for a written report to be shared with another professional or agency or to discuss relevant information with another person, e.g., parent, partner or employer
  • You would reasonably expect your personal information to be disclosed to another professional or agency, and disclosure is directly related to the primary purpose for which it was collected, such as to inform your GP of treatment and progress via written or verbal reports and liaison
  • Clinical consultation and supervision with another professional is required to provide better services. If this occurs, identifying details will remain confidential.

No, you do not. You are able to see a psychologist privately for as many sessions as you would like. If you would like to receive a medicare rebate for your session however, you will need to make an appointment with your GP and request a mental health care plan. Please advise reception when booking the appointment as an extended appointment may be required. You may be entitled to up to 10 rebated psychology sessions per calendar year. Please note, the medicare rebate is currently $98.95 meaning there will be a gap fee. You will be required to pay the full fee at the time of consultation and you are then responsible for claiming the Medicare rebate directly from Medicare.

Bulk Billing is not available.

Please be aware that current research suggests most individuals with mild to moderate psychological challenges may need more than 10 therapy sessions. As a result, we advise clients to consider this when planning and budgeting for treatment.
